"Astounding" might be the word I'm going for.
Annika is moon-faced from the steroids, and Annika is full of energy after the long months in bed.
Annika is also just the teensiest bit pissed off at us that she had to go through the past couple of months, and she's not above screaming and shouting to make sure we know it. Even if what she's screaming and shouting about is a vanilla milkshake or the fact that her favorite velvet dress is now too small. I know what she's screaming and shouting about really isn't that at all.
So mostly all this silence has been about Jörg and I trying to figure out how we can get Annika back to as normal a life as possible so she can start forgetting all this. Goodness knows I want to forget (and also don't). And it turns out that figuring out "normal" is more complicated than I anticipated.
Anyway, I haven't gotten off "thank you" cards. I didn't even get off holiday cards (I still have a stack of 110 of those guys staring balefully at me--I need to find a less conspicuous place to store the evidence of my failures).
But in case you were wondering if those little email notes, postcards, handknit socks, pictures drawn by your kids, care packages, blog comments, or general goodwill made any difference for these past few months: it did.
Made with much love and gratitude.
