Falling Down, November 2004

  • Balloon in hand, my 4-year-old
    twirled across the kitchen floor,
    singing nonsense words
    in her own key.
    "It's my gift!" she declared
to the world at large, which
    was really only me,
    sitting at the table. Enough
    twirling, and she lost
    her balance, tumbling
to the floor in a theatrical
    slapstick of elbows and knees.

    She lay on her back
    for a few seconds,
    staring
    at the textured ceiling
    with the mysterious
    spaghetti sauce stain.
    Suddenly she
    began
    flapping her arms and legs
there on the floor, as if to swish
    the imaginary snow
    into a snow angel.

"Falling down is also a gift!" says she.

Just from the look of her I can see why your girls would adore her (they do, don't they?)!

The camp sounds amazing - how cool that Annika will be fit enough to attend it!

liz

Does it count if you carefully fold your underwear before putting it in the drawer, but the rest of the clean laundry rests at the end of your bed and eventually lands on the floor? (Clean pile at foot of bed, dirty pile by closet?)

My logic: Must keep track of undies. The rest is negotiable as to varying states of cleanliness, wrinkles, etc.

Hi Moreena and Annika
I haven't checked in for a while and was so happy to read about your fun summer plans. Also, bizarrely to hear that Jorg's father is in Bremen where my mum is also from! We're having a blissful summer in England trying to avoid the swine flu which has reared its ugly head here quite scarily. Kids enjoying all manner of outdoor activities, frog-catching, river damming, berry picking, and mud-loving just like yours. Hope that EBV stays under control and glad that school is going so well.
Best wishes,
Joanna & Jessica

Happy Anniversary, sweet Annika - and a wonderful birthday month to you all (hopefully dull and boring compared to the last one, but nonetheless happy!).
All the best,
