Aimee

Thank you, Moreena, for keeping us with you blow by blow. Thank you, God, for bringing Anni through and giving the doctors all the wisdom to deal with the creative measures her body took to deal with what it's been dealt. Praying that the new liver "takes" well and continues to adjust. Praying for peace for the donor family, and thank you that people are willing to donate organs.

And happy, happy birthday, Frankie!

Awesome Mom

I am so happy that it went well!!!!! Go get some sleep!

Kathryn

I am glad, so so glad.
Now rest if you can...lots of hard work ahead but goodness, what a team!

Kyla

I always think of Dr. Superina in a tutu, ever since that post where you rhymed it with ballerina. Heh.

I'm so glad it is done. So very glad, Moreena.

Andrea

I'm crying, too.

Happy birthday, Frankie; and happy new day to all of you.

Go Anni. Get better and go home and do regular little girl stuff, ok?

Thinking of you, Moreena.

Andrea

Now why did this pop up on this post? I clicked on a different one.

I will never understand the internet.

"Thank you Universe or God or Science or Doctors"

All of the above!

Praying for a smooth recovery, and holding all of you in the light.

And a special Happy Birthday to Frankie.

Laura Boyer

Yes, happy birthday, Frankie, and happy transplant day, Annika. What an ordeal! The old liver was pulling blood from her diaphragm and other organs!Wow! I am praying that her bleeding stops quickly and that she can be closed up soon.

Jody

Oh Moreena. I can't believe how FAST this happened for you guys. I'm so glad the surgery went well. I'm so glad the blood transfusions went well.

I swear to you, I would go out and donate a pint RIGHT NOW if only they would take my blood (Damn that mad cow thing in the UK, they've thrown me off the donor lists forever). Anything else I/we can do, please ask.

I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers, and the donor family, too.

dregina

Holding all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Praying...

Kaye

Just found your blog and wanted to let you know that I will be praying for your little girl and your entire family.

Candace

I'm sobbing with relief and hope for all of you.

Falling Down, November 2004

  • Balloon in hand, my 4-year-old
    twirled across the kitchen floor,
    singing nonsense words
    in her own key.
    "It's my gift!" she declared
to the world at large, which
    was really only me,
    sitting at the table. Enough
    twirling, and she lost
    her balance, tumbling
to the floor in a theatrical
    slapstick of elbows and knees.

    She lay on her back
    for a few seconds,
    staring
    at the textured ceiling
    with the mysterious
    spaghetti sauce stain.
    Suddenly she
    began
    flapping her arms and legs
there on the floor, as if to swish
    the imaginary snow
    into a snow angel.

"Falling down is also a gift!" says she.
